Backstory

Reverie traveled the city’s as a fortune teller thanks to their power of divination. They got quite a few customers even though their almost lifeless demeanour creeped some people out.
One day they had just done a reading for someone and they just couldn’t shake this bad feeling that had came with that person, so they decided to do some investigating with their power. She used her power to look deeper into the previous persons past and saw something she would deem as horrible. But what she didn’t see is what would happen if she tried to intervene.
Overcome by fear they chased after the person and killed them without a second thought, in daylight, with many witnesses. The authorities were immediately called and Reverie was arrested quickly without any struggle.
They were put in prison with frequent interviews of why they killed but only ever stared blankly at the interrogator or starting telling them horrible things that might happen to them. They had finally descended into madness after all that they had seen.
Since nothing seemed to work she was just left alone in her cell for a while before one final interrogation where the interrogator told her that either she answer the questions and stay in the prison or is forced to help test a new punishment method.
Reverie said nothing. They were too far gone to understand what the risks of not answering was.
After they refused to cooperate they were taken to what looked like a lab or hospital room of some kind.
